Job Summary:

The Associate Chief of Family Medicine provides leadership and guidance to the family medicine department, assists the Chief of Family Medicine overseeing the development and implementation of clinical protocols, and ensuring the quality of patient care.

This position is responsible for assisting in leadership responsibilities such as recruiting, training of new physicians, performance evaluations, coaching and development. Develops relationships with other healthcare providers.

  • Adheres to current, applicable evidence-based clinical guidelines, standards of care, and standards of practice.
  • Provides direct patient medical care through routine assignment and by substitution, percentage of time not to exceed 60%. Administrative time estimated at 40%.
  • Assists in determining future clinical needs including medical equipment, clinical staff and space.
  • Actively involved with Human Resources, the Chief of Family Medicine, CMO and other executive staff in retention, recruitment and establishing methods for motivating medical staff.
  • Assists the Chief of Family Medicine in evaluating clinical performance of medical provider staff.
  • Assists Chief of Family Medicine in conducting provider meetings.
  • Attends the following meetings: QIC, Credentialling, Operations meetings, special project meetings when schedule permits.
  • Adheres to existing goals and establishes new goals and objectives with colleagues based on population needs and related to chronic health care issues (strategic and short-term planning) and support clinical outcome standards in collaboration with staff to reduce morbidity and mortality.
  • Demonstrates leadership through behavior that sets an example for medical staff, that is, professionalism, appearance, clinical standards, and clinical practice.
  • Assists Chief of Family Medicine in ensuring accountability of the Family and Internal Medicine staff and clinical practice.
  • Collaborates with medical staff and the Executive Team in enforcing and establishing medical policies, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Participates in clinical QI/QA activities and provide feedback to appropriate parties and follow through with corrective activities.
  • Adheres to CHC policies and procedures (HR, AAAHC, and Customer Service) and models and reinforces such behavior for medical staff.
  • Responsible for the oversight of weekly time sheets and time off requests.
  • Temporarily assumes duties of Chief of Family Medicine in the absence of the Chief of Family Medicine if requested by the CMO.
  • Participates on interviews for new Family or Internal Medicine providers.
  • Provides feedback to the Chief of Family Medicine for 90-day Introductory Evaluations and Annual Evaluations of Family and Internal Medicine providers.
  • Ensures that required regulatory classes are completed for the Family and Internal Medicine Provider team.
  • Collaborates with Family and Internal Medicine providers on clinical issues that affect their discipline and provides consensus to Chief of Family Medicine, via e-mail, breakouts at provider meetings or electronic conferencing.
    • Immunizations (uniformity on which combinations should CHC stock) if applicable
    • Clinical Care Guidelines (review/feedback prior to implementation)
    • Patient education uniformity
    • Review and recommendation of new services, technologies or procedures
    • Identification of opportunities for organizational improvement.
  • Completes peer reviews and annual chart reviews as assigned.
  • Completes assignments of clinical preceptors (students/residents) and primary and secondary supervising physicians (midlevel providers).
  • Ensures completion of clinical tasks "jellybeans" for Family and Internal Medicine providers on leave or post-termination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Advanced graduate degree as M.D or D.O physician.

    Experience:

    • Previous experience in a supervisory / leadership role preferred.
    • Leadership experience in a community health center helpful.

    Certification/Licensure:

    • Board-certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred.
    • Current and valid Florida licensure.
    • Current valid BLS certification with AED.

    Special Skills:

    • Ability to be firm, confident, persistent, and participatory utilizing counseling, teaching approach to direct supervision and a consulting approach with the Chief of Family Medicine.
    • Able to effectively and respectfully communicate between providers, nursing, lab, x-ray and management staff.
    • Promote clinical excellence in interactions with others and by examples.
    • Develop thorough understanding of organizational structure and key elements for organizational success.
    • Must be proficient in the use of electronic health record.
    • Function as integral part of Medical Services.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality on HR and Corporate issues.

    Other requirements:
